This 1961 Volkswagen Type 2 Panel Van has the cool look of a first-gen Bus, an even cooler A/C cab, and a hot motor that has a larger displacement than VW ever gave the Type 2. It all makes for a unique classic that's meant to be a terrific driver.
These first-gen Type 2s really gave us something special. The curved front end, pop-out dual windshield, and artistic full-length trim that comes to a powerful point right at the front-center. So these are true classics with truly classic style. And we like how the panel van body has plenty of sheet metal to show off a full black and white two-tone. More than just a pure classic, this one likes to show off its custom style with well-integrated details. For example, roof racks look great on a Bus, but the full-length one here has added versatility. And the Fuchs-style wheels remind us of the VW-Porsche connection, and they add plenty of polish to this Volkswagen. It makes for an attractive package that will also give you the overall impression of a classic that was made to be driven and easily enjoyed.

The interior is the right mix of vintage and upgrades. This still keeps the classic panel van style, and so that means a divider to the rear. This has classic pieces like the bench seat, single VDO gauge pod, and large dual-spoke steering wheel. But there are also updates for a true road trip machine, like overhead readouts with a large tach, upgraded speakers, and an AM/FM/CD stereo with USB and Bluetooth. Plus, the divider means it's much easier for the upgraded air conditioning to keep everything in the cab cool. The cargo area behind this is well-insulated and quite open. So there's plenty of potential you can add to a van that has big cargo doors on both sides.
In the rear is an air-cooled, horizontally opposed 2276cc motor. That's a larger displacement than what VW ever offered from the factory. It's a professionally built powerhouse by Doug's Bugs done in April 2021. It's a dual carb set up with everything from a Serpentine belt to an Optima red top battery. So that means extra power while still retaining the spirit and reliability of the Beetle motor. It fires up easily and runs nicely. Plus, it's linked to the sturdy and versatile four-speed manual transmission, which allows you to get the most out of the motor. The upgraded wheel means this one has the good grip of wide modern tires, and there are even disc brakes up front. So it really is a driver's Bus.
The sale comes complete with build receipts. You may decide to update the bodywork or refinish the interior, but overall, this VW Bus has the features and driving style that make this the distinct classic that loves to hit the road. So if you're looking for one of the coolest driver classics around, it will be hard to beat this air-conditioned VW Bus. Call today!!!
